The shank bushing, part 3115 2118 00, guides the drill shank as it transmits impact energy from the piston into the drill steel, absorbing the side loading that comes from any misalignment between the two. It is deliberately the softer of the two mating surfaces, so it wears in place of the shank, which is the far more expensive part to replace.
