Connector

The connector, part DN-4940183, joins a wiring harness to a sensor, actuator or another harness on a Cummins engine, and it does so in a place that sees heat, vibration, oil mist and washdown water every day. Most electrical faults on an engine that is otherwise running well are not failed components but poor connections, and this is the part where that kind of fault tends to begin. A connector that has started to cause trouble usually shows it as an intermittent fault that comes and goes with vibration or temperature, which is why moving the harness by hand while watching the signal is a quick way to find it. Look for green or white corrosion on the terminals, a seal that has hardened or flattened, and a locking tab that no longer clicks, because any of these lets moisture in and lets the contacts fret against each other. The housing is keyed so it only mates one way, and replacing it by part number keeps the terminal count and keying that the harness was built around. Stalroc quotes this Cummins reference by part number and exports worldwide to mining, quarrying, and drilling contractors.
