The suction cap, part 134 887 18, closes the suction side of the circuit and keeps the inlet sealed so that the pump draws fluid only from where it is meant to. Because the suction side runs below atmospheric pressure, a cap that does not seat properly lets air in rather than letting fluid out, and that leak stays invisible from the outside.
Air drawn in at the suction cap shows up downstream as foaming, noise, and cavitation at the pump, so an inlet that looks dry and clean can still be the cause of a pump that sounds rough under load.
