The jaw plate, part 138 231 68, is the bolted-on wear surface fitted to a Sandvik jaw body, designed to be replaced on its own once its profile wears smooth without having to replace the structural jaw behind it. A jaw plate run past its usable thickness stops biting into the feed properly and starts letting material slip through uncrushed, which reduces crushing efficiency well before the plate looks obviously thin.
Because the plate is bolted rather than integral to the jaw body, uneven tightening across its mounting bolts can let it shift slightly under load, which accelerates wear at the loose edge disproportionately to the rest of the plate.
