The separator oil filter, part 551 931 42, removes the oil mist carried in the compressed air leaving the system, using a coalescing element that gathers fine droplets into larger ones that drain back instead of travelling downstream. Its element has to balance capture efficiency against restriction, because a finer medium catches more oil but also builds up differential pressure faster as it loads.
